On The Record
Bark Buckle UP's team talked with many of the Police Chiefs at the 2008 International Association of Chiefs of Police convention regarding occupant safety in vehicles. A loose pet riding in the cabin of a vehicle can cause driver distraction (especially in the front seat), it can become a projectile or escape and cause additional accidents making it unsafe for first responders or delaying access to the human occupants in the vehicle. The job of a first responder is to make the roadways safer by reducing injuries, reducing property damage, and reducing the loss of life caused by motor vehicle accidents by; enforcing vehicle and traffic laws and other regulations; compiling, analyzing, and sharing data on accident causes and; by providing education on safe driving to schools, civic organizations and other groups.
